We use 8" of clean rock under basement floors to get the ground water to pass quickly to the drainage tile, thereby insuring a dryer basement.
In the past we have used two coats of exterior damp proofing known as Flex X while others use one coat. Now we are adding more protection as we will start using Polly Wall on the exterior which is a water-proofing process. This product even protects against cracks in the foundation from ground movement for the foreseeable future.
You have the added value option to seal all exterior concrete such as steps, sidewalks, garage floors and driveways with a petroleum based product for long managed care against salt damage.
We use I-Ill" - 4 x 8 solid sheets of special insulation board against the interior of the block walls instead of fiberglass batts. These solid sheets of insulation seal the exterior basement walls and prevent humidity moisture buildup in the wall cavity.
The entire house wood sub floor is sanded to give you an even floor without raised joints that can happen from exposure to weather during construction.
In all split foyers we install a two zone system to more evenly control the heating and cooling comfort zones on each floor.
Our window openings are triple insulated for maximum protection against air infiltration around the frame. First we spray foam the window flange in the cavity, then we install batt insulation and finally before the window trim goes on we use a closed cell foam rope to seal off the loose insulation, there by creating a draft and moisture stop.
All glass in our entry doors are ordered with Low E glass not just insulated glass.
When we sheetrock the interior of a garage we always poly and insulate as well.
We always upgrade our kitchen sink to a deeper/better grade of stainless steel and we always upgrade our lavatory faucets to Delta #540.
The interior trim and doors are hand wiped, stained, sealed and two coats of varnish are applied. Spray finish of trim does not give you the smooth hard seal.
